Hello, I am Dr. David Rentschler, DVM and I am the new 5th and 6th grade Science and ELA teacher. I will be the homeroom teacher for the 6th graders. I am a veterinarain and I am coming back to teaching. I grew up on a farm in northwest Iowa and went to Southwest State University where I received a Biology degree in 2001. After SSU, I attended Iowa State University's Veterinary School and received my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine back in 2005. After vet school, I was in private practice working on small animals, exotic animals, pocket pets, and wildlife for 6 years at the Dickinson County Animal Clinic in Spirit Lake, IA. In 2011, I jumped into education and joined the Iowa Lakes Community College team. I was the Program Director/Veterinarian for the veterinary technician program for 7 years. In those years, I was able to go back to school and receive a Master's in Education from Southwest Minnesota State Univeristy (the new name!!). In 2018, my family and I decided to move back to my wife's hometown of Westbrook. I then joined the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service as a Supervisory Public Health Veterinarian. After 1 year working with the USDA, teaching was calling me back to the classroom. I joined the HL-O team in August 2019. I am so excited to be a part of such a great school district!! I am married with 4 kids that keep me very busy. My hobbies include hunting, fishing, trapping, and wood working.
