• G'day mates, My name is Jamie Symens and I am the new 5th and 6th grade Science and ELA teacher. I also get the privelge of being the homeroom teacher for the 6th graders! I have already heard great things about all the students and am excited to meet them! I graduated in 2018 from the University of Minnesota with an Elmentary Education degree, but this is my first year teaching. I worked with 4-H for a bit and then I spent the last year and a half overseas volunteering with two different organizations. One in Australia (hence the G'day mates) and one in Israel. Both were absolutely incredible experiences and have taught me a lot about life and teaching. Other than some pretty awesome opportunities I'm not much different from many people living, working, and going to school in the Heron Lake-Okabena area. I grew up on a farm just outside Heron Lake where I learned a lot about hard work and having fun. I went to elementary and high school in Windom where my mom taught PE. I have two siblings, two nieces, and one nephew who are the cutest little kids in the world, I may be bias. :)

When I'm not at work, I enjoy doing anything outdoors, I help my family farm, I love hiking, swimming, horseback riding, reading, playing board games, watching movies and tv shows with friends and families, and always cheering on my favorite sports team the Gophers! I've also recently started learning how to can food with the help of my grandma and I'm learning how to sew a t-shirt quilt. Learning never stops!

I am keen to meet you, get to know you, and go on this adventure together!
