Jump Rope For Heart

Jump Rope for Heart at HLO Elementary

“February is American Heart Month”

Jump Rope for Heart Event is Thursday, February 20, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Get ready for the Kids Heart Challenge: February is here and we at HLO Elementary are ready to show heart!  This year we are participating in the Kids Heart Challenge.  It is your child’s chance to be a Heart Hero by learning about heart health, spreading the word and raising funds to save others. We are working together with this wonderful service-learning program to raise money for the American Heart Association and learn how nutrition and being active can help us live longer, healthier lives. This year our characters stand for some important messages:

Sunny says, “Move more”      Nico says, “Be kind”                      Perrie says, “Be ready”

Sofie says, “Add color”           Crush says, “Help others”             Knox says, “Avoid vaping and smoking”

Have your child go to heart.org/KidsHeartChallenge to register and set up their fundraising page. You may also download the Hearts Challenge app. The students may ask family and friends for contributions to help support your child’s participation of community service to help raise money for the American Heart Association; however, for safety reasons, we ask that children not go door-to-door to strangers asking for donations.  This is a great cause and a great program that promotes a great curriculum (health education) for the classroom and raises money for research.  We ask that checks be made payable to the “American Heart Association”.  The due date is Thursday, February 20.  .  Our students will be learning heart healthy facts and tips as well as jumping rope to save a life. By incorporating JRFH as part of our curriculum, we meet many of the Physical Education and Health state standards.

On Thursday, February 20, HLO Elementary school will be hosting a Jump Rope for Heart event in the afternoon with jumping activities at 1:00 p.m. and a program at 2:20.

On Wednesday, February 19, we will have a dress up as your “favorite superhero” or “JRFH character”.

On Thursday, February 20, we have wear “red” day for a healthy heart or wear your favorite “JRFH shirt”.

Our goal this year is to beat last year’s amount raised of $1000.  We would love to reach our goal, but in order to do that, we need many to do their part and ask others to help.

If you have any questions about our Jump Rope for Heart event, please contact me at the school 507-793-2307 or by e-mail donna.cook@isd330.org.   We look forward to your child’s participation in this very important project.
